Dr. Maurice D. Smith is a distinguished academic leader who holds the esteemed positions of University Registrar and Chief Administrative Officer at The University of the West Indies (UWI). Dr. Smith’s impressive educational background highlights the prestigious designation of Certified Professional Facilitator (CPFEd), emphasizing his commitment to effective teaching and learning. His expertise also encompasses other areas such as educational leadership, management, and organizational development. 

Dr. Smith is also credited with establishing Belmont Academy, Jamaica’s first Centre of Excellence. His visionary leadership transformed educational practices, emphasizing excellence, innovation, and student-centered approaches. Prior to his current role, he served as the Principal Director of the National College for Educational Leadership (NCEL), contributing significantly to leadership development within the education sector. In 2015, Dr. Smith assumed the critical position of Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Information, further shaping educational policies and initiatives.
