Dr. Craig Ramlal currently serves on the United Nations Secretary General’s High Level Advisory Body for AI. The body’s recommendations are crucial in enabling governments and corporations to properly react to the expanding world of artificial intelligence. He is the principal investigator of the intelligent systems laboratory, head of the control systems group and is the postgraduate studies and research coordinator at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of The West Indies. He also serves as a technical advisor to regional bodies on AI and autonomous systems and has published several peer reviewed journal articles and conference papers in novel intelligent systems and their applications.

He coordinated open data strategies in the Caribbean with IDRC and NASA, led collaborative health projects to combat COVID-19 in partnership with state ministries, developed AI diagnostic tools and robotic systems with Tallinn University and Rutgers University, respectively. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering through a split-site programme between the University of the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, and King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Ramlal’s research primarily focuses on Control Theory, Artificial Intelligence, and Game Theoretic Systems.
