Dr. Sandeep Mahara

Dr. Sandeep Bhupendra Maharaj is a pharmacist with a remarkably diverse background. He holds graduate degrees in Business Management (MBA and DBA). Currently, he serves as a Senior Lecturer and Director of the School of Pharmacy at The University of the West Indies (UWI), St. Augustine. Additionally, he leads the Entrepreneurship and Business Transformation Office for the Faculty. Planetary Health Advocate Dr. Maharaj is the Planetary Health Alliance’s Senior Global Outreach Fellow. His work extends beyond academia, focusing on global outreach and climate-related initiatives. As the Principal Investigator for the Caribbean Climate Cares Project, he contributes to sustainable solutions in the region. Dr. Maharaj is also a core team member of the Imperial College-led Project Connecting Climate Minds and manages the Latin American and Caribbean Regional Coordinating Committee for the same project. 

Leadership and Service In addition to his academic roles, Dr. Maharaj has served in leadership positions. He was the Deputy Chairman of the Eastern Regional Health Authority under the Ministry of Health in Trinidad and Tobago. Furthermore, he chaired the National Health Services Company Limited. His commitment to community service remains strong, and he continues to contribute as a member of the Council for Professions Allied to Medicine. Dr. Sandeep Bhupendra Maharaj’s multifaceted career spans academia, planetary health advocacy, and impactful community service. His dedication to sustainable practices and global outreach makes him a valuable asset to both UWI and the broader planetary health community.
