Mr. Ansari Hosein

Mr. Ansari Hosein is the Executive Director of the Caribbean Agricultural Research and Development Institute (CARDI). His appointment, effective from March 1, 2022, was announced by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Crenston C. Buffonge, who also serves as the Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing, and the Environment of Montserrat. Mr. Hosein, a Trinbagonian national, has dedicated over 17 years to CARDI, progressing from an entry-level Technician to a Research Assistant and then a Scientist. His expertise extends to managing research and development projects related to value chains for commodities such as cassava, sweet potato, hot peppers, small ruminants, and coconuts. He has worked across various Caribbean countries, including Dominica, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. 

As the Manager of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MSTI), Mr. Hosein led a team of professionals across CARDI’s 14 member countries, providing technical and managerial guidance for the Institute’s diverse STI program. He also sits on the Board of Directors of the Caribbean Agricultural Commercial Services Hub Limited (CACSH), CARDI’s commercial subsidiary, and chairs the Regional Small Ruminants Commodity Group. His extensive network includes diplomatic missions, research agencies, and private sector entities seeking to commercialize agricultural products. Mr. Hosein’s contributions extend beyond the region; he facilitated CARDI’s partnership with the Global Research Alliance on Agricultural Greenhouse Gases (GRA) and played a pivotal role in joining CaribVET, a collaborative network involving official veterinary services from 34 Caribbean countries/territories.  His 30 publications aim to share knowledge and improve livelihoods in the regional agricultural landscape.
