Dr. Andrew A. Hunte is a dynamic leader in education and mathematics, currently serving as the Head of the School of Humanities and Education at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Five Islands Campus in Antigua and Barbuda. With a passion for inspiring minds, he teaches courses in Mathematics and Education, drawing from his extensive academic background, which includes a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction of Mathematics and an MSc in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC). He also holds an MPhil in Graph Theory and Combinatorics and a BSc in Mathematics from UWI.
As a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Hunte brings a wealth of expertise and a global perspective to the Caribbean educational landscape. He plays a key role as the Assistant Chief Examiner of Additional Mathematics (CSEC) for the Caribbean Examinations Council and serves as an Associate Editor of the Caribbean Educational Research Journal (CERJ) at UWI Cave Hill. His leadership extends to the national level as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST) in Trinidad and Tobago from 2021 to 2025. Dr Hunte currently serves on the executive of the Caribbean and African Studies in Education SIG at the American Educational Research Association (AERA).
With research interests that include artificial intelligence in education, mathematics education reform, fostering geometric and algebraic thinking, and enhancing reasoning and proof in mathematics, Dr. Hunte is a thought leader in the field. His commitment to quality assurance in higher education underscores his vision for elevating educational standards across the region. With over 24 years of teaching experience at the tertiary level across the US, Trinidad and Tobago, and Antigua and Barbuda, he has shaped the academic journeys of countless students.
Dr. Hunte’s insights have been shared at prestigious international conferences, including the Psychology of Mathematics Education North American Chapter (PMENA), the International Congress of Mathematics Education (ICME), and the American Educational Research Association (AERA). His dedication to advancing mathematics education has earned him several international awards for both his research and his excellence in teaching. Dr. Hunte’s presentations are known for their depth, practical insights, and the genuine passion he brings to transforming mathematics education.
